The Tennessee Valley Authority and Rock Island State Park are conducting public tours of the Great Falls Dam powerhouse in celebration of the Dam’s 100th Anniversary. The tours will be conducted between 10 am and 2 pm CDT on Saturday, April 8. Pre-registration is required to tour the powerhouse. Registered tour participants will park at the Rock Island State Park beach area. Visitors will board buses to be transported by bus to tour inside TVA’s Great Falls Dam powerhouse. Participants must register each individual in their party separately, including children. Please print your registration receipt and bring to the tour for all members in your party. All participants will be required to pass on site security screenings.  Coolers and pets are welcome at the park, but not on the buses. No alcohol or firearms are permitted.  Please note: Twin Falls and the Twin Falls parking area will be closed to all outside guests on this date. Large portions of the beach parking lots will be closed to all outside guests on this date.

Operations at Great Falls began in 1917. TVA acquired Great Falls from the Tennessee Electric Power Company in 1939. It has two generating units with a net dependable capacity of 36 megawatts. It is located about 75 miles southeast of Nashville on the Caney Fork River. It’s named for the falls that plunge into the Caney Fork a short distance below the dam.
